Threads of Dignity: Fostering Skills Development and Business Opportunities for Women in Kasese, Uganda
Sewing and business classes help women earn their living
Women in the Kasese district in western Uganda play a key role in providing for their households. Many of them are small-scale farmers. Agricultural tasks such as planting beds, irrigation or crop protection require resources and tools that many women cannot afford. A large number of women do not have the professional or technical skills to generate their own income. As a result, they have only limited decision-making powers over household resources.
Stiftung WissenWecken supports the non-profit organisation Worth a Haven Foundation in Uganda in setting up training in tailoring for local women.
By April 2026, six women will initially be trained to produce garments (dresses, shirts, shorts), bags and purses. The participants will also be taught entrepreneurial skills to strengthen their ability to run their own business, as well as their decision-making skills in the household and their role in the community.
